Full mouth dental implants, explained clearly

Full mouth dental implants replace a whole row of teeth, or both rows, with teeth carried by implants set into the bone instead of a plate resting on your gums. It is one of the larger decisions in dentistry, and the honest first step is a conversation about whether it fits your mouth, your health and the life you actually live.

What full mouth replacement means

You may have heard this called All-on-4 or All-on-X. Those are brand names for particular systems, and the plain description is more useful to you: the teeth in a jaw are replaced as a set, held by implants in the bone. That is different from replacing teeth one at a time, and it is different from a denture that comes out at night. Which of those three suits you depends entirely on what is there to work with.

How it compares with a full denture

A conventional denture rests on gum tissue and depends on fit and suction to stay put. It comes out, it is the least involved option, and for plenty of people it is the right one. Teeth carried by implants are anchored instead, so they are not relying on suction to get you through dinner. The trade is a surgical step, more appointments and a longer plan. Neither answer is automatically the better one. They are different things to live with.

Patient questions

What patients ask us

Am I a candidate for full mouth dental implants?

Nobody can answer that from a website, and you should be wary of anyone who tries. It depends on the bone you have, the health of your gums and your general health. At a complimentary implant consultation we take a digital X-ray, look at your bite and tell you plainly what we see, including when we think a different option would serve you better.

I still have some of my own teeth. Does that change the conversation?

Yes, and it is one of the first things we look at. We save the tooth first when that is realistic, so a healthy tooth doing its job is not removed to make a treatment plan tidier. Sometimes the teeth you already have change the plan completely. Bring your questions about them, because that is the part patients are most often talked past.

How many implants would my case take?

That is decided by your bone, your bite and your health, not by a number printed on a page. Anyone quoting you a count before looking at an X-ray is guessing. We plan around what is actually there and show you the plan before anything begins. If we are not the right place to carry your case out, we will tell you that too.

Are full mouth dental implants expensive?

The final number depends on what has to come first, how much bone you have and what is needed. You’ll get a personalized estimate at your consultation, itemized, so you can see what each part of the plan is actually for before you agree to any of it.

What is the difference between full mouth dental implants and a full denture?

A denture rests on your gums and comes out at night. Full mouth dental implants are carried by posts set in the bone, so they stay where they are put. Which one suits you depends on your bone, your health and how you live day to day.

Where are full mouth dental implants planned in Davie, FL?

Full mouth dental implant cases are planned at our Davie dental office, with 3D imaging and a written plan you see before anything is booked. Patients come from Weston and further for a second opinion. Where a case calls for surgical work beyond our scope, we say so and bring in a specialist we trust rather than stretch.

More answers

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep any of my natural teeth?

Sometimes. If a tooth is healthy and doing its job, we would rather keep it, because we save the tooth first whenever that is realistic. Whether your remaining teeth fit into a full mouth plan is one of the first things we look at together.

My denture has never fit right. Is that worth bringing in?

Yes, and bring the denture itself. Sometimes the problem is the fit and sometimes it is the bone underneath, and those lead to different conversations. We will tell you honestly which one you are dealing with, even when the answer is not the one you hoped for.

Who would be involved in planning my case?

Both of our dentists. Dr. Escabí and Dr. Garcia look at implant cases together rather than one person deciding alone. When it’s appropriate, a trusted specialist joins the plan and we stay involved throughout.

What if I cannot sit still through a long appointment?

Say so when we plan, not on the day. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are both available, and appointments can be paced around what you can manage. We do not offer IV sedation. If your case needs more comfort support than we can provide well, we will say so instead of stretching past what we do.

What should I bring to a consultation?

Any dentures or partials you wear, a list of your medications, and the questions that have been sitting in the back of your mind. Recent X-rays from another office help too. Bring someone with you if a second set of ears would make the decision easier.
